You Are Not Fully Responsible For Your Life

You are not fully responsible for your actions, as you may have been led to believe…yet your reaction to the world around you dictates the very life you will live and experience.
Our modern civilization is a grand construct. Humans are the worker bees of it. Through history we humans have traversed the earth and extracted the raw materials from it and have used this matter to design and build the present world we are all living in today.
Along this historical creative trajectory, we have also spent time blaming others and ourselves for all of the “bad” stuff we have produced. The polluting of the water and air, the economic imbalances, the inequality among people, the war machines and all the pain we have inflicted on each other along the way. Yet we are not fully responsible.
Likewise we have spent much time praising ourselves and others for all the “good” things we have created. The building marvels, the transportation inventions, the computer technologies, the access to food and all the things we are conjuring up everyday, to make life better.Yet we are not fully responsible for that either.
The biological fact is we are the created. As much as we like to praise ourselves for being these powerful creative humans, we ourselves were created.
We all started out from the unison of our mom’s egg and our fathers sperm. Our dad and mom were created from their mothers egg and fathers sperm and all the way back and back, till we get to the beginning of the first sign of human life. Depending on which story you have integrated into your mind, we can go back even further, all the way back to the first microscopic organism.
Yet the question that simmers in my mind is not who or what the original creator is, but what responsibility do they or it has, to the human experience we are all witnessing and participating in?
Who or what created this initial spark of life can and has been debated endlessly, with no conclusive answer ever emerging. Though many have come to their own conclusions. Some call it source, God , Allah, energy, The big bang, Brahma, Yahweh and many other names for this original force and many have called it the great mystery, which is how I see it most days.
Yet this powerful force, whatever you may call it, that set life in motion a long time ago, is the same force that gives life to all humans today, along with life to all the living organisms on the planet and the cosmos that surrounds us.
Why is this important?
Before we were able to create skyscrapers, air planes, houses, automobiles, computers, phones, bombs, warships, guns, theme parks, fast food restaurants, museums, pesticides, sports leagues, corporations, herbicides, ice cream cones and greenhouse gas etc, this force created the raw materials or ingredients that make up the physical earth and allowed all that we see to be.
We, with our creative abilities, assembled these materials like kids with lego blocks, into all the things that we enjoy and have made our lives better, along with all the things that have made our lives worse.
Though if we tally up all the good, the bad and the ugly we have created, without the specific ingredients contained in the earth, these creations could not have been manifested. Even the intelligence that is within our minds that allowed us to design this modern civilization, comes from this powerful spark that gives us our capacity to imagine our world into new possibilities every day.
We are all amazing CO-creators. We all play and work together on a daily basis in this global sandbox, with this powerful force, our partner that goes by many names. A partner that provides all the stuff for us to play and build with.
However because we are part of the “co” in co-responsibility, our choices and thus actions do matter.
The actions we choose have consequences, which we both individually and collectively have to live with. We are all chefs in the kitchen with access to different earthly ingredients, yet all of us, even in the smallest way have the capacity to cook up new dishes as we look to the future.
So with all this power before us we must ask ourselves on a daily basis, if we are putting forth our best selves in this co-creative dance. Are we adding beauty and well being or further destruction?
Moving forward, it is with utmost importance that we stop beating ourselves and others up and instead offer compassion to each other for the choices we have made.
We can never be fully conscious of how this force contributes to our thinking and thus we cannot be fully responsible.
So what can we do?
When we are out in the world debating with each other, I choose to believe that we are all growing into more kind, loving and compassionate human beings, even when some may appear to be growing at a slower pace.
It is clear that this force is our partner and the other “CO”, in co-responsibility. This energy that gives our minds the capacity to think, our mouths the power to speak and our hands and feet the ability to take action.
We are moving into a new story, as humanity is sensing that when we collaborate with each other and embrace our role of the “co” part of co-responsibility, great things can happen.
Let go of the blame, let go of the weight that sits on your shoulders and the thoughts that you are not good enough, that you are fully responsible for your life and take a moment to inhale and take a deep breath.
We are all interacting with this force, as we play our different roles depending on the stage of life we are at and the resources that we have access to. Let's embrace ourselves everyday so that it becomes easier to embrace others.
